Using Lean Sigma to Improve Patient Flow and Increase Capacity
With a competitive healthcare marketplace, many providers are focusing efforts to improve the flow of patients while increasing capacity with the notion of gaining higher throughput while maintaining low cost. Since Emergency Departments are representative of many hospital processes in terms of complexity and variability, this workshop will focus on improvement of flow and capacity in an Emergency Department setting. Various case studies from multiple organizations will highlight the application of Lean, Kaizen and Lean Sigma to the Emergency Department processes in minor treatment and acute care. Integration with other hospital functions, such as imaging, laboratory and pharmacy will also be discussed.
Key takeaways include demonstrated improvement in:
- Increasing flow
- Reducing left without being seen
- Reducing length of stay
- Flexibility to demand
