Preventing Medical ID Theft

Identity management is becoming integral to the information and physical security strategy of the healthcare enterprise. A plethora of technology solutions are available to protect your information assets, but the best technology is only part of the story. Robust policies and procedures lie at the core of every strong identity management program, regardless if you use the program for the protection of patients’ information, logistics or monitoring of customers.

Based on numbers reported by the Federal trade Commission in 2003, The World Privacy Forum estimates that 500,000 people may be victims of medical identity theft. With President Bush's goal that all Americans have electronic health records by 2014 and efforts of five of the nation’s largest employers to give workers their own medical records healthcare providers are being forced to use cutting edge technology to improve patient record keeping.

This web conference will focus on what is required to create and make sure the policy and procedures you implement in your organization result in a system that will allow you to give the right information to the right people within your organization to meet the increasing informational demands, whilst ensuring that unauthorized access to information is not a event that can seriously damage your business.

Take away points:

  • Keep the policies and procedures user friendly and “front of mind” for your entire organizations staff
  • Develop a ID management strategy that meets the informational demands of your organization
